Hanley Controls Clonmel Company History
The early nineteen-eighties were an exciting time in Ireland for business. Government policy, effected through the IDA, was to encourage global process companies to set up capital manufacturing plants in the country. The supply infrastructure for such industries was way behind the needs of the new demands and therein lay opportunities for enterprise.
Malachy Hanley and Kevin Dundon had a good knowledge of the systems and devices needed and the sources of the associated materials. In September 1981 they registered Hanley Controls with the Companies Office as a supply entity, operating out of the town of Clonmel.
The Company started up with distribution contracts with Parker-Hannifin and the Foxboro Company. We were well received by the engineers and purchasers in the customer companies and were able to grow business at a steady rate over the early years.
Over time the numbers of distribution contracts with principals expanded and the staff numbers increased to keep pace with the business volumes. In selecting what manufacturers to work with, we approached companies with high world recognition-rankings.
There has been a big emphasis on the recruitment and development of staff with a view to giving personal service to our Customers. We employ and train our own engineers and apprentices. We have a healthy record of staff people staying with us for long service.
The company has evolved into three divisions. Mechanical Engineering covering pipe, fittings, valves and connectors, Utilities Metering covering water, gas and heat metering and control for public utilities and industry and Process Instrumentation covering process instrumentation and process analysers.
We have a manufacturing facility for the Utilities Metering and Instrumentation divisions in Clonmel. We currently employ thirty-five people across the spectrum of field sales, office sales, field service, manufacturing, administration and accounts.
Our Customers are widespread including pharmaceutical, food and beverage, semi-conductor, public utilities and factory automation. The Customers show their belief in the organisation by continuing to give us their business over the years. We look forward to serving Irish industry for many years ahead.
