When Designer Group were awarded this Project the initial intention was to use a mild steel product for upgrading the cooling system in the Data Centre. We quickly realized that this was going to have its problems in terms of hot works and ease of installation using a steel product. We contacted our supply partner Hanley Controls Clonmel Ltd who presented the Cool Fit Plus product as a possible solution for us. After several meetings with Dwayne Dunphy who covered all the technical aspects of the product we decided that Cool Fit Plus was a fit for this Project.
By using Cool Fit Plus we were able to use reduced labour on the Project and would have no hot works during the installation. While the Cool Fit Plus product was a more expensive option the labour savings made it cost neutral for us. A good example of this was on the riser element of this Project, we would have estimated circa one month’s work with steel pipework however the riser works using Cool Fit were complete in four days with only one tradesman and an apprentice assisting him. We also benefitted from a single visit application and no follow up visit to install insulation as Cool Fit Plus is pre insulated which is important in terms of reducing the risks on a live Project such as this one.
We have been tremendously impressed by the Cool Fit Plus product for many further reasons. We found that on pressure testing we had less joint failures than we would normally find on conventional steel joints. As Cool Fit Plus has a PE outer layer it is rigid and durable and suited for outdoor applications which meant for us we had no further outdoor weathering to apply to the pipework. Its black finish makes it very aesthetically pleasing and we have had extremely positive feedback from the client.
During the Project we had a weekly visit from Dwayne Dunphy and monthly visit from Mark Stuart of +GF+ and we also had a direct line with Claire Murphy in the office at Hanley Controls who kept us updated daily with delivery dates and times. Hanley Controls also took us to Georg Fischer’s Big in the City event in London recently where they launched a range of exciting new products including the new Cool Fit 2.0 which is a very exciting product that will change the industry.
Designer Group plan to use the Cool Fit product range on future Chilled Water Applications and would highly recommend it to anybody carrying out such an installation in the future. Hugh O’Hara – Mechanical Site Manager, Designer Group
